This is a solidarity statement from comrades in Tokyo, Japan, who are facing the potential of hosting the 2016 Olympics:
To No Olympic on Stolen Land, NO 2010, Anti 2010 resistance.
December 17th, 2008
We have just found out that in Vancouver there are people who oppose hosting the 2010 Olympic Games. We looked through the information book (Warrior Publications) which explains the reasons of opposition to the winter Olympic events. The stories reminded us of our experiences during the 1998 Nagano winter Olympics, and again we felt strong anger.
The fight in Nagano took us 10 years, starting from the Olympic invitation process, then becoming the host city and then having the actual Olympic event and after. Through out we saw the problems of natural destruction by resort developers. Japan's biggest developers used the Olympics to expand their already existing resort land. One of the developers was the leader of the Japan Olympic Committee (JOC).

By Jan. 5, the Town of Huntsville should know whether or not its proposal to construct a media centre/second ice pad that would be attached to the Huntsville Centennial Centre is accepted.
“If we’re going to have this project done by March of 2010, I need an answer in January. An answer in March won’t do me any good,” Huntsville mayor Claude Doughty told this newspaper.
On Thursday Doughty presented the proposal for the centre to representatives from the prime minister’s office, as well as summit manager Gerald Cossette, who was in town conducting audits on the area’s facilities and services in preparation for the G8 Summit being held at Deerhurst Resort June 25 to 27, 2010.

The date has been set and the 2010 G8 Summit manager is in Muskoka conducting an audit of the area and its services and facilities to determine what we have and what will be needed to pull off the gathering of world leaders in less than two years’ time.
Parry Sound-Muskoka MP Tony Clement announced to those in attendance at the annual President’s Ball on Saturday that the G8 Summit at Deerhurst would run June 25-27 in 2010.
But he told this newspaper Monday there will be activity in Huntsville and the rest of the region long before the three days of the actual summit.
“All of the security and entourage for each of the leaders precedes the leaders being there, so you’ll start to see activity, in some cases many weeks before those actual three days,” he said. “Secondly, the whole purpose of having this local organizing committee or local area leadership group is we want to build on those three days and make this something more than just the three days, both from a tourism, business, arts and entertainment point of view.”

"This will be a fantastic opportunity to promote Canada's priorities and values on the world stage, and it's a great opportunity to show the world the colours of Huntsville and Parry Sound-Muskoka in June," said Clement, who represents the riding that includes the summit's host establishment, the Deerhurst Resort in Huntsville, Ont.
Prime Minister Stephen Harper has previously announced the location for the meeting, but the dates of the event have only now been confirmed.
The last time Canada hosted the annual summit of leading industrialized nations was in 2002, when Kananaskis, Alta. served as the scenic backdrop.
